Join artist Cecilia Vicuña and poet, translator, and longtime collaborator Rosa Alcalá for a bilingual performance of Vicuña’s poetry on the occasion of her exhibition The Dream of Water: Quipu of Encounters Maricunga. Vicuña’s project at MOCA focuses on the ecological crisis unfolding in the Maricunga Salt Flats in the southernmost part of the Atacama Desert, where fragile ecosystems and the communities that have called this territory home for generations face increasing threats from corporate lithium mining. Vicuña and Alcalá have performed together frequently and collaborated on translations of Vicuña’s work, including Spit Temple: The Selected Performances of Cecilia Vicuña and New and Selected Poems of Cecilia Vicuña.
